The Truth about Recovery from a Biblical Perspective

There is a common assumption and belief in the recovery industry that the twelve steps of Alcoholics Anonymous are Christian in origin. As shown in the articles on this page the twelve steps are not Christian and in fact directly contradict the gospel and are non-Biblical. It is a sad fact that for so many years the twelve steps have gone unchallenged and have not been held up to the light of scripture.

I spent the first thirteen years of my twenty four years of sobriety in the program of Alcoholics Anonymous. In those years I found no peace, no calm, and no joy. Then I began reading the scriptures and seeking to follow Christ with my whole heart and I have been blessed with peace, calm, and joy beyond what I could ever have dreamed was possible.

If you are a Christian in recovery and currently attending a twelve step program whether it be Alcoholics Anonymous, Celebrate Recovery, Hunger for Healing or any of the other assortment of spin off programs, please take the time to consider the following information. My hope is that by sharing the truth about the twelve steps and the modern erroneous understanding of recovery which permeates much of the modern Christian Church that you will avoid the destruction that they lead to and instead come to be blessed through a true and intimate walk with Christ.

God Bless,
